ISI NucMed: end of the 3rd edition!
The third edition of the Nantes thematic school dedicated to nuclear medicine was held from 1 to 4 July 2024. Eighteen young researchers, clinicians and students from several countries attended the training course, which is now renowned throughout Europe.
From the production of radioisotopes in cyclotrons to the use of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic or therapeutic applications in clinical departments: the ISI NucMed thematic school, organised by the cluster TransForMed and the Arronax Nantes research community, aims to cover the full spectrum of scientific disciplines involved in the development of nuclear medicine, from bench to bedside.
This third edition focused on alpha particle emitting radionuclides, in particular astatine-211, an area of excellence for Nantes research teams. It was held at 4 Nantes sites involved in nuclear medicine research: the GIP ARRONAX, which operates the Arronax cyclotron; the Centrale Nantes engineering school and Nantes University Faculty of Science and Technology, which house the LS2N (digital sciences) and/or CEISAM (chemistry) labs; and the IRS-UN building, which houses the CRCI2NA lab and its nuclear oncology team.
The 4-day training programme included lectures by international specialists in nuclear physics, radiochemistry, dosimetry, artificial intelligence, radiomics, radiopharmacy and theranostics, as well as a practical session in image analysis and deep learning, another dedicated to molecular modelling, a poster session in which participants presented their field of research to the others, and a daily clinical spot to highlight the contributions of the various research topics.
