American researchers Jonathan Engle and Jason Mixdorf from the Cyclotron Lab (University of Wisconsin-Madison) spent two days at GIP ARRONAX in the context of the NExT’s ICoN.

J Mixdorf, J Engle & F HaddadDuring a visit August 22-23, 2024, Jonathan Engle and Jason Mixdorf of the University of Wisconsin – Madison Cyclotron Laboratory visited the GIP ARRONAX facilities in the company of its director, Férid Haddad.

As members of the i-site NExT’s ICoN project (International Consortium on scaNdium radio-isotopes) project, launched in 2019 and led by Sandrine Huclier, the researchers took the opportunity to talk about possible collaborations in radiochemistry for the production of scandium-44, a promising radionuclide for nuclear imaging. The Nantes and US teams are planning to work together on separation techniques to optimize a 44Ti/44Sc generator. Jonathan Engle and his colleague also showed a keen interest in Nantes’ work on Auger emitters, especially the 103Ru/103mRh pair.

The University of Wisconsin team was particularly grateful to Ferid Haddad for generously sharing his extensive experience in the design and operation of medium-energy accelerator facilities in view of their current expansion product for their own accelerator laboratory, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health. This project may offer opportunities for further scientific collaboration with GIP ARRONAX.
